Workshop: slowly geting there

All three legs now lathed with half the pom poms now ready to be upholstered onto the foam all needs doing now is forming the back I’m thinking with cloth then upholstered over the top. The holes for the legs need screwing at a 9 degree angle then i can work the splits to fit between the legs just one week left busy busy busy!!

Another Frank Gehry inspired chair

Seems a lot of my college projects had to do with a favourite designer and again it was Frank Gehry. The brief again to design a piece of furniture inspired by the designer. I looked into all the different types of products buildings and furniture that Gehry designed to gain inspiration for the project. At the same time as this project we had life drawing lessons which I recommend to anyone to do. Our aim for one lesson was not to try and detail the subject but to draw it as simple shape as possible and this is what I drew.

Try to make out the shape of the body with the top right being a shoulder, down the back to the bum then up to the knee with two arms going across.

First uni project

The brief was to make a piece of seating out of a sheet of material that later became sheets. To create the seating we were told to first crumple up the paper and draw/document every shape we made from what was in front of us. This then developed into finding shapes from our drawings and using colours to make them stand out. I carried on folding and creating shapes until I came up with the cone like final design.

Trying with other materials

While practicing with bending ply for the first time to create Olivier Mourgue's Bouloum Lounge which looks like a human body. There was left over bent ply from other students that were not using and decided to take it home and try creating another piece of furniture from it.Although it isn’t finished needing some support for when someone’s using it I like how this turned out and will try improving the final design.

school seating

College project on raising a school profile. I choose to design an outdoor shelter with integrated seating as no one wants to sit on a wet seat. The design gives a sort of hiding place that children like to include in there fun and games. The inspiration for the final design came through visiting Ron Arad’s pieces at the Barbican gallery in London. I was interested in his organic curves in his work and these became my inspiration for this project.

Bed side table

My GCSE Resistant Materials project. Made from old exam tables that are beech wood, acrylic window and pine dowel is used for the detail of the joints.
