Busy Busy Year

Well I thought I was getting back into the blogging of projects and interests but things quickly became busy and hectic. I started a placement at a furniture makers called Parker and Farr and seem to of joined the team at the right time with great projects and great opportunities within design. I am now currently in my final year of studies at Nottingham Trent also so my "free" time is limited in these things I enjoyed doing. To give an update on my projects I have just completed my minor project on my course. I will go into greater details in another blog post but here is a quick image showing the final outcome. ( it's a task lamp by the way)  My next project is looking into small spaces, modular furniture and the "workspace" that will hopefully have an interesting design outcome. I am also looking into sustainability for my dissertation looking at a blue sky project into the design of dishwashers specifically. Introducing shaun the pom pom stool

Here is Shaun. Shaun is a 3 legged stool I designed for my client Polly. He is made from 214 pom poms and maple wood for the legs and base of the seat. The seat itself is made from soft foam that once sat on the back is then noticeable to support your lower back. Thank you for looking at Shaun I hope to be making more in the future.

Studio: sharpener project

First day back in the studio and the project was to design a pencil sharpener here are a few concepts I came up with during the day. The final design being a computer mouse shaped sharpener for easy and comfortable grip when using.

Jean Genet Inspired guitar amp

After recently visiting the Nottingham contemporary where Jean Genet is exibiting and there was a few pieces of furniture that had been coverd in bits of newspaper which made me more interested in the shape and the finish on the furniture there. I want to apply this to future designs maybe to add a story and interest to my furniture but for now, I descided to transform an old guitar amp to see how it would look.

Another Frank Gehry inspired chair

Seems a lot of my college projects had to do with a favourite designer and again it was Frank Gehry. The brief again to design a piece of furniture inspired by the designer. I looked into all the different types of products buildings and furniture that Gehry designed to gain inspiration for the project. At the same time as this project we had life drawing lessons which I recommend to anyone to do. Our aim for one lesson was not to try and detail the subject but to draw it as simple shape as possible and this is what I drew.

Try to make out the shape of the body with the top right being a shoulder, down the back to the bum then up to the knee with two arms going across.

Final shape Think could be improved alot with the amount of material used and the shap of it
